Committees and Task Forces are where the majority of Equity Council’s work is done – creating resource materials, developing educational initiatives and more – to deliver on the Association’s objectives. Below is a list of the current Committees and Task Forces.

Council Education & Renewal

Supporting Council’s ongoing learning and encouraging members to participate in Council elections. 

Directors, Choreographers, Fight Directors & Intimacy Directors

Empowering members working in these disciplines by identifying their needs and developing resource materials and negotiation proposals that help them thrive.

Diversity & Inclusion

Raising awareness of the challenges members from historically underrepresented and marginalized identities face in their career. 

Finance Monitoring

Helping Council review financial monitoring reports throughout the year. 

Honours

Celebrating members and industry partners biennially with awards for Life Membership, Emerging Artist, Changemaker, Larry McCance, Honorary Membership, and Award of Distinction.

Indigenous

Connecting Council to Indigenous members and recommending ways Equity can better serve and represent their communities.

Joint Standing Committees

Examining the application of the Equity’s reciprocal agreements and recommending changes as necessary. 

Member Engagement & Education

Developing initiatives that keep members informed, prepared, and empowered, as both Equity members and professional artists.

Members on Tour

Creating educational resources to prepare Equity members for the psychological and physical demands of touring. 

Opera

Discussing issues and heightening Council’s awareness of the needs of members working in the opera discipline.

Physical Health & Safety

Suggesting improvements to physical health and safety provisions in Equity’s agreements and engagement policies and creating relevant resources for members. 

Reprisal

Identifying ways to address concerns members have when coming forward about a violation of their rights.

Respectful Workplaces

Strengthening Equity’s commitment to respectful workplaces through policy recommendations and initiatives that educate and promote positive work practices.

Stage Management

Equipping stage managers with helpful resources and raising awareness of concerns important to members working in the discipline.
