Permittees working under Equity’s jurisdiction enjoy the benefits of wages and working conditions established in the Association’s collective agreements and engagement policies.
Working as a Permittee
Permit Filing Fees
On each engagement, permittees pay 8.25% of their weekly fees to Equity as permit filing fees. A percentage of the permit filing fees is credited to the permittee’s initiation fee, up to a maximum of $400 per contract.
Permit filing fees expire three years from the end of the associated contract. Permittees may request, in writing, an extension to the expiry date. The fee for an extension is $25.
Insurance
Permittees pay medical insurance premiums while on contract. This entitles them to accident insurance only, with no possibility of off-contract coverage. For more information, please visit the Health & Insurance Benefits page.
Voting
Permittees are entitled to vote on concessions to the conditions of the applicable agreement or engagement policy they are working under. They are not, however, entitled to vote in the ratification of a new agreement.
Permittees may be present for the election of an Equity Liaison, but they are not entitled to run for the position or vote.
Pathway to Joining
The pathway for joining Equity may differ, depending on the discipline and circumstances of a permittee. For more information on becoming an Equity member, please refer to the Joining Equity page.
